The Preschool Expulsion Risk Measure, or PERM, is a tool developed by Drs Walter Gilliam & Chin Reyes of the Yale Child Study Center in 2018. The tool is a screener that is used nationally in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation programs to get initial data about the teacher indicated factors that influence likelihood of expulsion for a referred child. This important data informs consultants approach with teachers. This training is for Maryland Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants to ensure their understanding of the measure, the process for application, when to administer and discuss throughout the course of a case, and how to manage conversations about significant teacher stress or tension within relationships in the classroom.
